Healthy Homemade Hummus Recipe
For a basic hummus recipe, you will need these ingredients:
- 500g of chickpeas
- A splash of olive oil
- 1/2 squeezed lemon
- 1 tablespoon of tahini (sesame paste)
- Half a clove of garlic (you can add it or not, to your liking)
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of sweet smoked paprika for garnish
Step-by-Step Guide:
First, cook the chickpeas for about twenty minutes in a pressure cooker. If you prefer, you can use a can of pre-cooked and drained chickpeas. Then, put the chickpeas in a bowl.
Next, peel the garlic and cut it in half to use in the mixture. Add the lemon juice, oil, tahini, and cumin to the mixture. Using a food processor, blend this mixture until you have a smooth but thick paste. You can add water if the moisture from the chickpeas and sesame paste isn’t enough for the hummus to reach your desired consistency.
To present it, the smoked paprika will give it a touch of contrast and color: place the mixture in a bowl and sprinkle a little paprika on top.
Your hummus is ready to eat! For snacking, you can serve this pâté with toast or crudités such as carrots, cucumber, or green and red bell peppers.
As you can see, hummus is very easy to prepare, so knowing how to make it is a great way to prepare legumes in a different way. If you haven’t tried it yet, this is an excellent opportunity. But be warned: it can become a real addiction!
